Earth Day 2014
April 22 is next week and that means Earth Day is just around the corner. Of course, every day is or at least should be Earth Day, but April 22 has been a day of special focus on our planet since 1970. According to the Earth Day Network, today over one billion people in 192 countries participate in Earth Day activities. They explain that the theme for this year’s Earth Day is Green Cities “to help cities around the world become more sustainable and reduce their carbon footprint.”
Some things they suggest as ways you and your company/organization can get involved in Earth Day include:
- Host a talk for coworkers and community members.
- Plan a day of tree planting.
- Pick up trash at a local park or beach.
- Invite an expert to educate your group or larger community about the dangers of climate change, the importance of sustainability, how to reduce your carbon footprint or on any other pressing environmental issues.
Let’s all do our part to help protect the planet. For every company and every individual what that is will be different. But no effort is too small. Even something as simple as bringing your own shopping bags to the store or printing business documents double-sided can make a difference.
