Take 5 Interview with Michelle Shinholster, OSG’s HR Generalist (Part 1): It’s Better to Give than to Receive

Many companies have found that there is great value in participating in community give back programs. This week we caught up with Michelle Shinholster, OSG’s HR Generalist, to speak about how OSG participates in give back programs throughout the year. We are posting part 1 today and will be back next week with part 2.

1. You’ve played a big role in helping to develop the OSG annual give back campaigns. Why are they so important to you?

It’s important for me to work for a company that has a social conscience. As a breast cancer survivor I’ve seen first-hand the positive impact that companies, big and small, can have when they reach out to support a good cause. Plus, overall I think that companies who are passionate about philanthropy also tend to be passionate about their employees.

2. Tell us a bit about the programs OSG supports.

OSG supports a number of local and national programs. For the past five years we have supported the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to help raise money and awareness for breast cancer research. All of our offices take part in our annual Wear Pink for The Cure day and we also participate in a Race for The Cure event.

Locally, we partner with our neighborhood fire department during the holidays to contribute to an annual toy drive. It’s amazing every year to see how many gifts come in for the kids! We have also supported our local food pantries and homeless shelters.
